Karen has always had a passion for working with children in the arts. She started in middle school, working at Village Green Day School in Great Falls, Virginia, with children ages 2-8. There she created her own art-related activities for the children and aided teachers with their lesson plans for the school year. Her passion for working with children and her discovered love for the arts pushed her to graduate high school a year early in order to attend Savannah College of Art and Design. At Savannah, she studied photography, drawing, and painting under professors trained by Ansel Adems. She went on to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where she developed her talents as a filmmaker. Karen graduated NYU with a degree in cinematography and an award-winning piece of work shot in Prague. Karen went on to receive her MFA at The School Of Visual Arts in Computer Art.
Karen's award-winning visual effect work for international advertising campaigns include Pepsi, FedEx, Gillette, Verizon and AT&T. "I like a sharp creative mind with an eye for discovery,” Karen says, “which has lead me to work with new directors, expanding my work to music videos and films."
Karen has now expanded her skills and work in the arts to produce media content for companies that carry a positive mission statement. One of these projects will take Karen to Africa at the end of the year to document and promote the grassroots work being done by Mary Graham, of Practical Small Projects, in rural communities of Southern Mali. Until then, Karen takes great joy at being able to share her knowledge with the children at Wild Blue, and help them explore the world around them, empowering them to use their own uniquely discovered eye.
